Before joining the Alliance, Maria Antoineta worked for the Ministry of Finance in Mexico for 20 years, where she held positions such as Deputy Director for Foreign Investment and International Organizations and Director for Financial Regulation. There, she covered a range of issues, including the regulation and formalization of the savings and loans sector, consumer protection, money laundering, financial inclusion and education, credit bureaus, and liaison with international organizations. While working at a Mexican government-owned social development bank, she was responsible for developing projects to financially include vulnerable populations, such as co-nationals being repatriated and low-income women. She also had 10 years of experience in the international commercial industry before moving to the public sector.
