To build an active merchant network, mobile money providers often have to invest significant resources in merchant acquisition or partner with specialists. A new publication by GSMA shows that building a digital financial ecosystem that includes merchants and clients can be an effective strategy. Simply signing up merchants is not a formula for success; the transactions count as well, so customers need to have funds in their mobile money accounts and clearly see the benefit of mobile money to transact regularly.
